The Alley Theater for Young Audiences is committed to providing a safe, age appropriate environment where expression and creativity are fostered and encouraged. Care is taken to select plays and events that enlighten, educate and entertain.
In August, 2010, The Alley Theater launched its Theater for Young Audiences program, headed by Dana Hope as its Artistic Director, with a well attended and received production of Furry Tails with a Twist by Jennifer Hickok DeFratis, a play for little ones. This show toured schools, libraries and community centers throughout the year.
In December of 2010, we were proud to host Divas N Dogs Presents: "Winter Woofs!" A fantastically funny tribute to Vaudeville, complete with beautiful, funny ladies and trained canines!
Alley TYA closed its first season with the beautiful, poignant The Yellow Boat by David Saar. Critically acclaimed and beautifully directed, it was a loving tribute to a talented young boy who contracted the AIDS virus due to complications from hemophilia.
Told from the viewpoint of his imagination, audiences were treated to a world of color and movement. Our first major partnership with The Louisville AIDS Walk was a rewarding experience for all involved, especially the precocious star of the show, Noah Bunch.
His performance was so moving, the Executive Director of the AIDS Walk asked him to be the Grand Marshal of the 2011 walk. Click HERE to see the complete photo gallery.
2012 promises to be just as fantastic as we bring two more wonderful shows to Kentuckiana. This is Not a Pipe Dream by Barry Kornhauser and produced in conjuction with the JB Speed Art Museum, and Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! closes us out with its infectious trip down memory lane!
The Alley Theater for Young Audiences promises to bring the highest quality children and family programming to our community. We hope you and your family will join us in 2012.
